The DeKalb Board of Commissioners passed the 75-foot stream buffer protection requirement 12/28/2000, as part of the environmental protection section of DeKalb's Land Development Ordinance (Chapter 14, Articles I and II. The vote was 7-0. The previous buffer was 25 feet. This predict this victory to be the most controversial and impactive of all environmental legislation passed in the last year.

  5. In DeKalb County tree fencing (typically orange) "shall be installed at the critical root zone." Critical Root Zone means "an area of root space that is within a circle circumscribed around the trunk of a healthy tree using a radius of 1 foot per inch DBH (diameter at breast height)."
